Margie Lee Johnson
Margie Lee Johnson, a long-time resident of Coolidge, left us all on November 12 for a better place. Not that she had a bad place here, having remodeled her and Doc's home to her personal tastes some years ago, a home that was featured in Sunset magazine. When she did leave however, she took her satin pillow which accompanied heron every travel, including rafting the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. We know this because even now we can find it nowhere; she must have taken ot with her one last time.
Margie was 98 years of age (almost 99-a Christmas baby) when she left us. She was proceeded in death by her former husbands, Clay "C.V." Hanna and Chalmers "C.D." (Doc) Johnson, both of Coolidge. She is survived by her three sons: Court, Howard, and Mark Hanna; Four step-children: Linda, Pam, Debbie, and Scotty Johnson; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Margie also had six siblings, four brothers and two sisters, all of whom predeceased her. All will feel her loss but at the same time know she faced the end unafraid and on her own terms. All in all, quite an accomplishment following a good, honorable and long life.
Margie was never one to make a fuss... well there was the matter of the super-secret fruit cake recipe for "Little Puds" which would have certainly taken the culinary world by storm-but alas, she evaded revealing to anyone. Other than that, Margie expects no fuss to be made over her now. In honoring her wishes in this, no ceremonial gathering is planned. Should anyone feel the need to honor her life, maybe do so by cooking up your favorite recipe and sharing it with family and friends.
