Colonel Marie Frazier Walker

July 29, 1947 - September 6, 2026

Colonel Marie Frazier Walker, USAF (Ret.), age 79, passed away peacefully on September 6 in Casa Grande, Arizona after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Mentone, Alabama, Marie dedicated her life to the service of her country and the healing of others. A true trailblazer, she faced and overcame the immense institutional barriers and discrimination of her generation to achieve the distinguished rank of Colonel in the United States Air Force Reserve. Her exceptional leadership and clinical mastery were highlighted during Operation Desert Storm, where she was stationed at the Andrews Air Force Base Hospital to care for our nation's wounded service members.

Her pioneering military path culminated at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona, where she served with distinction as the Chief Nurse of the 944th Aeromedical Staging Squadron (ASTS) before breaking barriers to become the Commander of that very same unit—an extraordinary accomplishment for a woman of her era.

Parallel to her military leadership, Marie was a deeply compassionate Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, selflessly dedicating her career to clinical care up until just six months prior to her diagnosis. Beyond her public achievements, she was known by those closest to her for her intense, private generosity, quietly supporting others without ever seeking recognition or praise.

While her professional triumphs were vast, her greatest joy was her family. As an only child, Marie shared a profound, unbreakable bond with her daughter, Tiffany McQueen. She was a devoted mother-in-law to Tiffany's husband, John McQueen, a fiercely proud grandmother to her two beloved grandchildren, and a loving sister to Barbara Gail Goodwin. Marie was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers.

Colonel Walker lived a life defined by courage, duty, and an unwavering commitment to protecting and helping those in need. Her legacy as a commander, healer, and protector will live on forever in the hearts of her family, her former units, and the countless lives she transformed.

Celebrations of Life will be held at later dates in both Arizona and Alabama. Colonel Walker will be laid to rest with Full Military Honors at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in her honor to The Alzheimer’s Association.
