Today, we celebrate the life of an incredible man, Jerry Hines.
Born in 1940, Jerry was a proud graduate of Medical Lake High School’s Class of 1958 and remained a cherished member of the community throughout his life. He began his career as a state employee at Eastern State Hospital while attending Eastern Washington University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology. He went on to serve as a juvenile probation officer for the State of WA for 30 years working in Naselle, Richland and eventually returning to Spokane to finish his distinguished career.
Jerry also dedicated many years as a volunteer EMT in Medical Lake. This was a role he loved and one that reflected his lifelong commitment to helping others.
After retiring, Jerry embraced life as a true snowbird traveling throughout the Southwest before making his home in Yuma and later settling in Casa Grande, Arizona.
When he wasn’t working or traveling, you could usually find Jerry hunting or at the gun range. An award-winning Washington State trap shooter, he had a deep passion for the outdoors and the shooting sports he loved so much.
Above all else, Jerry treasured his family. He leaves behind the love of his life and wife of 65 years, Nancy; his three daughters, Jodie, Mardee (Terry), and Shelley, who brought him endless pride and joy; his grandchildren, Ashlee, TeraJo, Ryan (Amy), Brendon (Courtney), and Kendra; and his great-grandchildren, Zoey and Loren.
Jerry affectionately called his children and grandchildren his “toad heads,” a nickname that perfectly captured his playful sense of humor and the deep love he had for his family.
Known for his kindness, warmth and ability to make friends wherever he went, Jerry was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend. At 85 years young, he leaves behind a legacy of love, service, laughter and generosity that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Please keep Nancy and the entire family in your thoughts and prayers during this time. Jerry, you will be missed beyond words, but your love, laughter and the memories you created will continue to shine brightly in all of us.
Rest easy, Jerry. You will never be forgotten.
