Sam Castro Sr. (Sammy Cass)

April 9, 1953 - January 18, 2022



Sam Castro Sr. passed away January 18, 2022 in Casa Grande. He was 68. Sam, also known as Sammy Cass, was born April 9, 1953 in Casa Grande, AZ where he lived his whole life.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Margie Enriquez Castro and two paternal grandsons that he and Margie were raising Jordan and Roy Berlanga; sons Sam Castro Jr.(Buzzy), Steven Castro(Chico Pedico), and daughter Lisa Castro(Baby Doll); step-children Cristal Ruiz Flores, Fabyance Berlanga, and Rudy Berlanga; sisters Eloise Gastelum(Nena), Barbara Melecio; brothers Frankie Castro and Arnold Castro; 35 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.


Sam is preceded in death by his father Agapito Castro and mother Socorro Castro; brothers Tony Castro, Robert Castro, Alex Castro, and Arturo Castro; grandparents Jose Alcantar and Ramona Guerrero.


Sam was an electrician for over 25 years and helped to build various sites throughout Pinal and Maricopa Counties such as Ross Laboratories, Frito Lays, schools, four story courthouse in Florence, and Intel in Chandler. He worked on water treatment plants and worked as a miner for the Hecla Mine in the 80's. His last employer was Felix Construction in Phoenix, AZ. Sam was a coach through the City of Casa Grande for his grandsons/sons in basketball, baseball and football. He enjoyed sports and teaching the kids how to play. He was an avid Cardinals fan. He loved to sing and play his guitar. He loved to take long rides on his motorcycle. He enjoyed fishing and would take trips to the lakes in Safford with his long time buddy, Herb Cauthen. He was a master of horse shoes and once won second place in a huge tournament. He was a jokester and loved to make people laugh. He will truly be missed by many.


Services will be Thursday January 27. 2022 at 11:00 am at Calvary Chapel. Burial Immediately following at Mt. View cemetery. Pastor Robert Castro officiating.
