William Haas Moore "Bill"

January 14, 1947 - April 18, 2022



William Haas Moore passed away April 18, 2022 in Flagstaff due to complications from Alzheimer's disease. He was 75.


Bill was born in Uniontown, PA to William and Lorraine Moore, who preceded him in death. The family moved to Arizona when he was 7 and moved to Florence shortly thereafter where they settled. He graduated from Florence High School and went on to get his bachelors and masters degree from Arizona State University and his doctorate from Northern Arizona University in Western History.


He was a born teacher and loved his students. He taught in Prescott, Sanders, and Tohatchi, NM before settling in Chinle teaching high school English. He retired from Chinle after teaching there for 21 years. He was an avid reader and author. He wrote "Chiefs, Agents, and Soldiers" and was working on his second book but didn't get to finish it.


He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Virginia. Daughters Francie Deall (Jerry) and Maria Lorena Clancy (Brad); brother Bob Moore (Chris Gouker); granddaughters Laura Deall, Marie Deall, Isabella Clancy, and Madelaine Clancy.


Services will be April 28, 2022 at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Florence. Viewing 9:00 am, Rosary 9:30, and Mass at 10:00 am. Burial will be immediately following at Valley Memorial Cemetery in Coolidge.
