Robert George Richter

Robert George Richter, 79, of Scottsdale, AZ., surprised his family and friends by passing on before the 7th game of the World Series. Bob had a massive heart attack early Nov. 2nd. A die hard Cubs fan, he had season tickets for many years. Born in Chicago, IL. to Muriel and George Richter, Bob grew up in Oak Park, IL. He attended Oak Park High School, where he excelled as a football player. Bob attended the Univ. of IL, Univ. of HI and graduated from SIU, where he supported the school by setting up the Robert Richter Endowment Scholarship. He was also a big backer of their athletic department. He served in the Army for 6 years, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. Once in civilian life, he joined the Illinois Central Railroad working his way up to Vice President of Labor Relations. After leaving the railroad, he moved to Scottsdale where he used his negotiating talents as a labor arbitrator specializing in Railway cases. He continued to do this until health issues made it impossible to travel. He was a sports fanatic. He watched all sports and managed to play a pretty good game of golf as a member of Gainey Ranch. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother William and sister Gayle (Dunn). He is survived by his sister, Judy (George Lyon) of Casa Grande, AZ; Niece, Christine Boren (Mark) of Fort Worth, TX and Nephew, Stephen Lyon (Tiffany) of Vandenberg AFB, CA.

Services will be held Nov. 14, 2016 at 11 a.m. in The National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.
