Ron "Handlebar" Pickering
Ron Pickering, 70, of Casa Grande, AZ. passed away on March 30, 2017 in Tucson.
Born in Port Huron, MI on May 6, 1946, Ron graduated from Marysville High School in 1964. He was drafted in December of 1965 to the United States Army. Ron completed his basic training and advanced infantry at Fort Riley, KS. There he received his sharpshooter badge and volunteered fro the U.S. Navy diving school in San Diego. In 1966 Ron graduated from diving school and was one of 38 divers in the U.S. Army known as Frogmen. In February of 1967 he was sent to Vietnam and did underwater construction demolition and recovery missions. In November of 1967 he was discharged from the Army at the rank of Specialist E-4.
He lived and worked in the Metro Detroit area and had 2 daughters with his first wife, Betty. He then went on to meet the love of his life, Carol. Carol who had been blessed with her son, Larry. Carol and Ron wed in 1988. They had a son, R.J. together who completed the family unit.
Ron had a passion for golf, guns and partying with his good friends. He was blessed with on grandchild, Mitchell Troy. He enjoyed sharing his love of motorcycles and muscle cars with everyone he knew. He retired after 42 years with Chrysler Corp and moved to Casa Grande in 2006. He had been very active in VFW post #1677 as the commander for 3 years and also as a member of the VFW Honor Guard. He was a life member of the American Legion and UAW
Ron is survived by his wife of 28 years, Carol Petrelli Pickering; Daughters, Tina (Ryan) Noland and Amy Troy; Sons, Larry Webber and R.J. Pickering; Sisters, Tammy Kramp and Linda Emig; Brothers, Larry and Jeff Pickering; 1 grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gathel and Ravena Pickering.
A memorial service will be held April 1, 2017 at the VFW Post #1677, 111 E. 2nd St. Casa Grande beginning at 1pm.
