Murel Loyd McWhirter

Murel Loyd McWhirter, 82, passed away on October 5, 2017 in Maricopa, AZ.

Murel served in the U.S. Navy as Head Torpedo-man for 9 years. He was a true outdoors man and a cowboy at heart. This was evidenced by his work and many of his hobbies. He loved horses, cattle, ranching and was an avid fisherman and gardener.

Murel is survived by his wife of 61 years, Evelyn McWhirter; Daughters, Vickie Higgs, Donna Duffy, Irene Higgs, Nona Stanford; Sons, Gary McWhirter and Brent McWhirter; Brother, Veron McWhirter; 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Grady and Osvell Jane McWhirter; Grandson, Brandon McWhirter; Great-granddaughter, Kinza Opal Lee; Step-mother, Dolly Irene McWhirter.

A memorial service will be held at 10:45a.m. Wednesday, October 11th, 2017 at The Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Marana. 15950 N. Luckett Rd. Marana, AZ. A reception will immediately follow at the Masonic Lodge in Casa Grande, AZ. 1140 E. Florence Blvd. Casa Grande, AZ.
